Areas Of Service

Assessment
An holistic assessment is done by evaluating your child's gross motor, fine motor, visual perception and sensory processing skills. This is done by completing standardized and non-standardized assessments and observations.
The following assessments are available:
Comprehensive assessment for children 4 years and older
Shorter assessment for toddlers 2 years - 3 years 11 months
Assessment for babies 0 - 23 months
Mini-assessment 3 years and older

Therapy
Therapy is done on a weekly basis either for 30-minute sessions or 45-minute sessions, depending on the specific needs of the child. It usually lasts for 6-9 months but seeing as each child is different and develops at a different pace, this period might be longer. A progress report is written after 10 - 12 sessions and a re-assessment is done after 24 sessions after which progress is monitored and further recommendations made. Therapy sessions are either done at school or at the practice.
Screenings
Developmental screening assessments are done at the beginning of the year at certain schools on request of the school itself. These assessments are not comprehensive assessments but serve as a way to determine possible difficulties and whether or not a child will require occupational therapy intervention.

Home visits
In today's busy world, parents often find it difficult to bring their children to the practice for occupational therapy. Home visits are, therefore, done in order to assist parents who have a full-time job and other responsibilities. Some parents also face difficulties such as not being able to drive which further limits the possibility of attending therapy sessions at the practice. Home visits are only done in selected areas.
